Members
were very pleased to catch up with Pétanque stalwart John Ferris when he
visited with past President Catherine Meunier one Saturday. John has generously
donated some of his spare boule to the club for visitors and new players to
use. Thanks John we hope to see more of you when you move back into the area.
Thanks
also to David Combe for the set top box which we hope will keep the television
he donated to the club still going. We have applied for the funding of a new
flat screen TV and are awaiting the outcome of the application in a couple of
months.
The
PWA has allocated the fiercely contested State Interclub Competition to Subiaco
on the 21st and 22nd of September.
Training
for the State Team is being held at Subiaco every Wednesday evening from
6.30pm. The committee sends its best wishes to those of our members who have
nominated for selection.
BOCCE PER TUTTI
Some of our members signed on for the
inaugural Heritage Festival Bocce competition at the Italian Club in Fremantle.
While novices at the game which has
similarities to Pétanque we were placed in teams who played regularly and soon
picked up some of the basics. Sue Dauth actually playing in the winning team
and now possessing another trophy for her mantelpiece from sponsors the City of
Fremantle. It
was interesting to note that while we knew something about Bocce their club
members just shook their heads when we mentioned Pétanque. However we were made
very welcome and enjoyed a sumptuous lunch. Even better there was no entry fee
and this is now going to be an annual event. See you all there next year?

Another
successful club picnic was held at Manning
Park on WA Day. Although the attendance was not large those
that came thoroughly enjoyed the glorious weather and fun games although the
moss on the untended pitches will be a reminder on their boule of the day for
some time to come.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
It’s
that time of year again and Saturday 6th July has been chosen for the AGM to
commence at 12 o’clock. All positions on the committee are declared vacant and
there is the opportunity for new blood to step up and help with the running of
our club. Please give this opportunity every consideration and don’t just leave
it to the few who do volunteer each year to do the job. The meeting will be
followed by a sausage sizzle for those present at the meeting.
